Snoring is a problem. We can provide the relief.

Do you find yourself unusually tired during the day, even after receiving a full night’s sleep? This could be due in part to you or your partners snoring. Snoring is a condition that affects an estimated 30-50% of Americans nightly. While most people may think snoring is merely a loud nuisance, there are some serious health risks that can be involved.

Snoring occurs when air flows past relaxed tissues in your throat, such as the uvula, the soft palate and the back of the tongue, causing the tissues to vibrate as you breathe. Think of a flag blowing in the wind; this is similar to the effect that creates the harsh snoring sounds.

This disturbance of air flow can decrease the amount of oxygen reaching the brain, or in some sleep apnea cases, cause you to stop breathing for up to 10 seconds at a time, as well as continually wake up during the night and never be able to get a good night’s rest. Severe sleep apnea cases have even been linked to heart disease, heart attacks, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes and excessive daytime sleepiness.

Many people try and fix their snoring on their own without realizing it is a medical condition that needs to be treated by their dentist. Dentists can custom fit you with mouth appliances that are worn at night while sleeping. These mouth appliances looks similar to mouth guards, and use normal body reflexes to help keep the airway open and prevent snoring. A study done by four doctors in 1996 found that 99% of patients using a mouth appliance reported reduced snoring, and 50% reported elimination of snoring altogether?

So if you, your partner or a member of your family are having a hard time sleeping, and are suffering from drowsiness and fatigue during the day, call us right away so we can help you get the rest and energy you need!
